WAVERLY, Iowa- Wartburg track and field is set to host the Chelsey Henkenius Open on Jan 17 (Sat) in Waverly.

Season Outlook 
The All-Conference returners on the women's side includes Caitlin Benesh, Nadia Bowden, Grace Braden, Leah Cherry, Kelly Giardina, Ella Johnson, Haley Meyer, Samantha Nielsen, Hannah Ramsey, Sophia Stahle, Olivia Tollari, and JoJo Tyynismaa. The All-Conference returners on the men's side includes Elliott Bond, Aidan Decker, Hutton Edney, Isaiah Hammerand, Rylan Martin, Dustin Mohler, Cade Olson, Tyler Schermerhorn, Lance Sobaski, David Williams, and Solomon Zaugg. The Knights roster features 115 athletes on the men's side and 83 athletes on the women's side.   
 
"The whole goal is that we want them at their best four times a year. Indoor conference, indoor nationals, outdoor conference, and outdoor nationals. You have to be mindful in the periodization of your training and what that looks like in the summer months" said Head Coach Marcus Newsom at media day
 
This year's indoor conference meet will be held on Feb 27 (Fri) - Feb 28 (Sat) in Decorah and the NCAA Indoor Championships meet will be held on Mar 13 (Fri) - Mar 14 (Sat) in Birmingham.
 
"We got a very talented team, incredible leadership, and we are definitely extremely excited about what the indoor season is going to look like," said Newsom.
 

 
Women
Last Season
Wartburg placed second in the Indoor American Rivers Conference Championships in Waverly.  JoJo Tyynismaa won the most valuable track performer award at the Indoor American Rivers Conference Championships and earned All-Conference honors in the 400m (first place), 60m hurdles (first place), 200m (second place) and 4x400m (second place). Sophia Stahle, Olivia Tollari, and Leah Cherry, and JoJo Tyynismaa represented the Knights in the 4x400m. Caitlin Benesh (pentathlon), Shaniah Johnson (triple jump), Ellie Meyer (mile), Haley Meyer (800m), the 4x400m relay team, and the distance medley relay team earned All-Conference honors with their event wins. The 4x400m relay team was represented by Nadia Bowden, Hannah Ramsey, Ella Johnson, and Haley Meyer. The distance medley relay team was represented by Nadia Bowden, Leah Cherry, Haley Meyer, and Ellie Meyer. Brooke Shafer (pentathlon, second place), Emma True (weight throw, second place), Samantha Nielsen (high jump, third place), Olivia Tollari (long jump, third place), Kelly Giardina (5000m, third place), Ellie Meyer (3000m, third place), and Grace Braden (60m hurdles, third place) rounded out the Knights performance at the Indoor American Rivers Conference Championships with All-Conference finishes. JoJo Tyynismaa's 60m hurdle time broke the championship record and Ellie Meyer's mile time broke the facility record.
 
Wartburg placed 36th at the Indoor NCAA Championships in Rochester, New York. Emma True earned First-team All-America honors in the weight throw (fourth place), JoJo Tyynismaa earned First-team All-America honors in the 60m hurdles (eighth place), Grace Braden earned Second-team All-America honors in the 60m hurdles (13th place), and Ellie Meyer earned Second-team All-America honors in the mile (16th place).
 

Men
Last Season
Wartburg won their 14th Indoor American Rivers Conference Championship (dating back to 1998). Elliott Bond won the rookie of the year and earned All-American honors in the long jump (second-place). Wartburg (HC: Marcus Newsom) won the coaching staff of the year. Carson Collet (pole vault), Christan Nunley (weight throw), Tyler Schermerhorn (5000m), Sam Schmitz (3000m), Hutton Edney (800m), the 4x800m relay team, and the distance medley relay team earned All-Conference honors with their event wins. The 4x800m relay team was represented by Carter Cruise, Rylan Martin, Aiden Houseman, and Hutton Edney. The distance medley relay team was represented by Jack Kinzer, David Williams, Aiden Housman, and Aidan Decker. Zak Kubitz (heptathlon, second place), Jacob Green (5000m, second place), Solomon Zaugg (3000m, second place), Lance Sobaski (mile, second place), Jensen Clapp (400m, second place), the 4x400m relay team (second place), Dustin Mohler (triple jump, third place), Isaiah Hammerand (5000m, third place), Aidan Decker (mile, third place), and David Williams (60m, third place) rounded out the Knights performance at the Indoor American Rivers Conference Championships with All-Conference finishes. The 4x400m team was represented by Ian Neyens, David Williams, Cade Olson, and Jensen Clapp. Mitchell Darst's heptathlon 60m time broke the championship record. Tyler Schermerhorn 5000m time broke the championship record and facility record.
 
Wartburg placed 50th at the Indoor NCAA Championships in Rochester, New York. Hutton Edney earned First-team All-America honors in the 800m (seventh place). Jacob earned First-team All-America honors in the 5000m (eighth place). Lance Sobaski, Jensen Clapp, Carter Cruise, and Aidan Decker earned Second-team All-America honors in the distance medley relay (ninth place). Christian Nunley earned Second-team All-America honors in the weight throw (11th place). Elliott Bond earned Second-team All-America honors in the long jump (12th place). Lance Sobaski earned Second-team All-America honors in the mile (12th place). Deyton Love earned Second-team All-America honors in the 60m hurdles (14th place). Rylan Martin earned Second-team All-America honors in the 800m (14th place). Michael Goodenbour earned Second-team All-America honors in the 3000m (16th place).
