CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa --- The Wartburg College bowling teams traveled to Cedar Rapids, Iowa this past weekend for the Five Seasons Classic hosted by Mount Mercy, where the women's team took 10th and the men's team finished fifth.
Featuring a unique USBC format where every match is head-to-head match play rather than solely total pinfall, the tournament consisted of five traditional games on Saturday followed by 20 Baker games split into sets of four on Sunday.
The women's squad continued to grow as a young team against a strong field, finishing the weekend with a 5–5 record and a total pinfall of 7,835 to place 10th in the varsity standings. The Knights bounced back with a strong 4–1 record during Sunday's Baker competition, paced individually by Lindy Dhuse, who secured a 17th-place finish.
The men's team put together a 6–4 overall record, comprising a 2–3 mark in Saturday's traditional games and a 4–1 run in Sunday's Baker sets to finish 5th in the varsity field with a total pinfall of 8,415. Despite an up-and-down weekend, the Knights were anchored by strong individual performances from Louis Shontz, who finished 11th, and Tyler Richter, who placed 17th.
The Knights continue the season on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 31-Nov. 1 when they travel to Alexandria, Minn. for the annual Big Ole Open hosted by St. Olaf College.
