ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Knights defeated Macalester 1-0 on Sunday, Oct. 4 to closeout nonconference play unbeaten over their last five matches (4-0-1). Overall, Wartburg is now 5-3-2 and Macalester moves to 5-6.
Claire Lienhard scored two minutes into the first half and Wartburg held the Scots to six total shots, including just two on goal for the fourth shutout of the season.
How It Happened
First Half
- Lienhard scored at 1:18 with a deep shot that sailed over the keeper's head and found the top of the net to put the Knights ahead 1-0 early

Tulla Jensen made a save at 3:20 during a Macalester stretch that included two shots and five corner kicks through 14:36.
- The Knights generated pressure later in the half with four corner kicks from 21:18 to 28:55, plus shots from
Bella Hruska, Lienhard and
Ella Turner, whose attempt was saved at 29:15.
- The Knights added another corner kick at 34:15 and carried the 1-0 lead to halftime.
Second Half
- The half opened with a physical stretch, as six fouls were whistled between 47:29 and 55:51 while the Knights also generated shots from
Lupita Lopez and
Claire Lienhard.
- Macalester created pressure midway through the half with a corner kick at 66:19 and a shot from Miya Whiteley that went left of goal.
- Jensen saved Erica Hamilton's shot at 72:32, and the Knights held Macalester without a goal through the final whistle to finish a 1-0 win.
