Tyynismaa, Veld Sweep A-R-C Honors

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Wartburg track & field senior JoJo Tyynismaa and sophomore Abby Veld have each earned American Rivers Conference Athlete of the Week honors, the league announced Monday. 

Tyynimsaa, a Tama, Iowa native, won three events in her senior day performance at the Liz Wuertz Indoor Invite. Tyynismaa set a meet record with a time of 8.71 to win the 60m hurdles, which stands 11th on the TFRRS list for this season. Tyynismaa set another meet record in the 200m and improved to third on the program's top 10 list with a 25.20 personal best time. Tyynismaa was on the 4x400m relay team that took first place with a time of 3:53.03, which was her third meet record of the day. 

Veld, a Steamboat Rock, Iowa native, won both of her events at the Liz Wuertz Indoor Invite. Veld outlasted 23 competitors in the shot put with a 13.29m 43-07.25 mark and 20 competitors in the weight throw with a 16.43m 53-11.00 mark. Veld has won her third shot put and weight throw event on the season. Veld is currently ninth on the TFRRS list for the weight throw and 14th on the TFRRS list for the shot put this season. 

Tyynismaa has earned her fourth career A-R-C athlete of the week honor and Veld earned her first career A-R-C athlete of the week honor.
