GREENWOOD, Ind. -- Wartburg College senior
JoJo Tyynismaa has been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America® Third Team for the 2025-26 women's track & field/cross country season, the organization announced Wednesday.
Tyynismaa (Tama, Iowa/South Tama) earns her first career CSC Academic All-America honor after compiling a 3.84 undergraduate grade-point average while majoring in mathematics. She paired her academic success with one of the most decorated seasons in program history, collecting eight NCAA All-America honors across the indoor and outdoor campaigns while sweeping the American Rivers Conference Most Valuable Performer awards.
A five-time A-R-C Performer of the Week during the 2025-26 season, Tyynismaa captured conference indoor titles in the 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash and as a member of the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays. During the outdoor season, she claimed conference championships in the 100-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash and as part of the and 4x400-meter relay team.
At the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama, Tyynismaa earned All-America honors with seventh-place finishes in the 60-meter hurdles and 4x400-meter relay, while placing eighth in the 60-meter dash and 10th in the 200-meter dash . She followed that performance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in La Crosse, Wisconsin, finishing as the national runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles, fifth in the 4x400-meter relay, seventh in the 100-meter hurdles and 15th in the 100-meter dash.
Following her standout season, Tyynismaa was named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Midwest Region Women's Track Athlete of the Year on May 29. She became the seventh women's track athlete in Wartburg history to receive the honor, joining Missy Buttry (2003), Heidi Porter (2007), Hannah Baker (2008), Nevada Morrison (2012), Tashina McAllister (2014) and Aubrie Fisher (2021).
Eleven of the 45 members of the Academic All-America® Division III women's track and field/cross country teams hold a perfect 4.00 GPA in their undergraduate work or graduate school. The 15 first team members have an undergraduate GPA of 3.94. The entire 45-member team has an undergraduate GPA of 3.91.
