Wartburg Sweeps A-R-C Indoor Track & Field Championships

DECORAH, Iowa- The Knights No. 9 ranked men's track and field team won their 15th Indoor American Rivers Conference Championship (dating back to 1998) with 199 points and the Knights No. 12 ranked women's track and field team have won their 18th Indoor American Rivers Conference Championship (dating back to 1998) with 216 points. JoJo Tyynismaa won the most valuable track performer for the third consecutive season. Wartburg (HC: Marcus Newsom) won the coaching staff of the year on both the men's and women's side.
 
JoJo Tyynismaa (200m, 60m hurdles, 60m), Isaiah Hammerand (3000m), Hutton Edney (800m), Haley Meyer (800m), Jimmy Weispfenning (200m), AJ Wright (60m), the men's 4x800m relay team (AJ Angus, Nathan Ahern, Rylan Martin, Gage Heyne), the women's 4x800m relay team (Hannah Ramsey, Ella Johnson. Marissa Pewe, Bethany Warren), the men's 4x400m relay team (Jeffrey Oestreicher, Hutton Edney, Alex Kerr, Jimmy Weispfenning), and the women's 4x400m relay team (Natalie Bork, Olivia Tollari, Leah Cherry, JoJo Tyynismaa) were named conference champions in today's action.
 
Isaiah Hammerand broke the program record in the 3000m with a time of 8:10.18 and Hutton Edney broke his own program record in the 800m with a time of 1:51.20.

The Knights had two competitors finish in the top five of the heptathlon. Daniel Zietlow placed fourth and Mitchell Darst placed fifth. Zietlow (4565 points) remains seventh on the program's top 10 list, but improves his previous personal best. Darst (4489 points) remains eighth on the program's top 10 list, but improves his previous personal best.

FIELD EVENTS
(M) Heptathlon (Pole Vault): Daniel Zietlow finished in the top three with a 3.96m 12-11.75 mark to lead the Knights.
 
(M) High Jump: Jayden Maten was the top performer for the Knights. Maten placed ninth with a 1.83m 6-00.00 mark.
 
(W) High Jump: Ema Roberts earned all-conference honors. Roberts placed second with a 1.66m 5-05.25 mark. Samantha Nielsen finished fourth with a 1.58m 5-02.25 mark.
 
(M) Triple Jump: Tonie Torboh Jr earned all-conference honors with his 14.08m 46-02.50 mark to finish third. Jayden Maten finished in fourth place with a 13.96m 45-09.75, which ranks sixth on the program's top 10 list.  
 
(W) Triple Jump: Samantha Nielsen led the Knights with a 10.47m 34-04.25 mark to finish in seventh place.
 
(M) Weight Throw: Eli Keahna was the top finisher for the Knights. Keahna took 12th place with a 16.15m 53-00.00 mark.
 
(W) Weight Throw: Abby Veld earned all-conference honors with a 16.90m 55-05.50 mark to place second.
 
RUNNING EVENTS
(M) Heptathlon (1000m): The Knights had two finishers in the top five. Seneca Molstre placed second with a time of 2:50.69 and Mitchell Darst placed fifth with a time of 2:56.27.
 
(M) Heptathlon (60m Hurdles): Seneca Molstre was the top finisher for the Knights with a time of 8.58. Molstre put together a top five finish.
 
(M) 3000m: Isaiah Hammerand was the conference champion with a time of 8:10.18, which is his first individual conference honor. Hammerand broke the program record, meet record, and facility record. Hammerand broke Tyler Schermerhorn's record (8:12.34), which was set on January 30th of this year. Lance Sobaski earned all-conference honors with a time of 8:11.00. Sobaski improves to second on the program's top 10 list.
 
(W) 3000m: Maddie Merna earned all-conference honors with a time of 9:59.74 to place second. Morgan Engel finished in the top five with a time of 10:23.02.
 
(M) Mile: The Knights had four of the top five finishers. Nathan Kinzer (4:10.96) and Ahmed Aldamak (4:14.29) earned all-conference honors with their second and third place finishes, respectively. Andrew Smith (4:16.55) finished in fourth and Aidan Decker (4:18.61) finished in fifth.
 
(W) Mile: Maddie Merna earned all-conference honors with a time of 4:55.88 to finish in third place. Merna ranks sixth on the program's top 10 list.
 
(M) 800m: Hutton Edney was the conference champion with a time of 1:51.20. Edney has won his second consecutive conference championship in the event. Edney set the facility record and broke his previous program record (1:51.55). Edney stands ninth on the TFRRS list for this season. Nathan Ahern earned all-conference honors with a time of 1:52.05 to finish third. Ahren improves to third on the program's top 10 list. Logan Rosas (1:53.70) finished in fourth place and Rylan Martin (1:56.18) finished in fifth place.
 
(W) 800m: Haley Meyer was the conference champion with a time of 2:13.62. Meyer has won her second consecutive conference championship in the event and set a facility record with her performance. Hannah Ramsey (2:16.55) placed fourth and Bethany Warren (2:17.34) placed fifth.
 
(M) 400m: Alex Kerr was the top performer for the Knights and earned a top five finish with a time of 50.02.
 
(W) 400m: Olivia Tollari ran a time of 58.66 to lead the Knights with a sixth place finish.
 
(M) 200m: Jimmy Weispfenning was the conference champion with a time of 21.85, which is his first individual conference honor. Weispfenning remains third on the program's top 10 list, but improves his time. AJ Wright earned an all-conference honor with a time of 22.24 to finish in third place.
 
(W) 200m: JoJo Tyynismaa was the conference champion with a time of 25.10. Tyyismaa earned her first career individual conference honor in this event. Tyynismaa finished the day with three individual conference championships. Tyynismaa has earned seven career individual indoor conference honors in her career. Tyynismaa remains third on the program's top 10 list, but improves her time.
 
(M) 60m Hurdles (Finals): Austin Rindels was the top finisher for the Knights with a time of 8.38 to finish in seventh place.
 
(W) 60m Hurdles (Finals): JoJo Tyynismaa was the conference champion with a time of 8.69. Tyynismaa earned her fourth career conference championship in the event. Tyynismaa set both a meet and facility record with her performance. Tynnismaa remains third on the program's top 10 list, but improves her time. Tyynismaa stands eighth on the TFRRS list for this season. Grace Braden earned all-conference honors with a time of 8.81 to finish in third place. Braden stands 18th on the TFRRS list for this season.
 
(M) 60m (Finals): AJ Wright was the conference champion with a time of 6.80, which is his first individual conference honor. Jimmy Weispfenning earned all-conference honors with a time of 6.88 to place third.
 
(W) 60m (Finals): JoJo Tyynismaa was the conference champion with a time of 7.69. This was Tyynismaa's first conference championship in the 60m.
 
RELAYS
(M) 4x800m: AJ Angus, Nathan Ahern, Rylan Martin, and Gage Heyne represented the Knights. They are the conference champions with a time of 7:48.50. They set a facility record and rank third on the program's top 10 list. The Knights have won the event in back-to-back season.
 
(W) 4x800m: Hannah Ramsey, Ella Johnson. Marissa Pewe, and Bethany Warren represented the Knights. They are conference champions with a time of 9:27.61. They rank sixth on the program's top 10 list. The Knights have won the event in three consecutive seasons.
 
(M) 4x400m: Jeffrey Oestreicher, Hutton Edney, Alex Kerr, and Jimmy Weispfenning represented the Knights. They are conference champions with a time of 3:18.76. This is the Knights first conference championship in the event since 2021.
 
(W) 4x400m: Natalie Bork, Olivia Tollari, Leah Cherry, and JoJo Tyynismaa represented the Knights. They are conference champions with a time of 3:52.43, which is a facility record.
