NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana- Wartburg Director of Cross Country and Track and Field, and Head Track and Field Coach,
Marcus Newsom, was named the USTFCCCA Indoor Women's Head Coach of the Year for the Midwest region, the national organization announced.
Newsom led the Knights to the team title at the American Rivers Conference Indoor Championships, scoring 216 points for a 67-point winning margin. Wartburg also had a 15
th-place team finish at the NCAA DIII Indoor Championships, earning 11 All-American honors.
Newsom is a seven-time United States Track Coaches Association Division III Indoor Women's Coach of the Year. He's received 17 USTFCCCA Division III Regional women's outdoor and indoor Coach of the Year honors to his resume.
Each of the ten regions – Great Lakes, Metro, Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Midwest, Niagara, North, Northeast, South, West – honored both genders' top track athletes and field athletes as well as the top men's and women's head coaches and assistant coaches.
Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches. Only those individuals from USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for awards.
