Baseball Falls to Simpson in Friday Doubleheader

INDIANOLA, Iowa --- Baseball (13-11, 4-8) continued American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play today as the Knights fell to Simpson College (17-9, 8-3) in a doubleheader on Friday, Apr. 10. Simpson took game one 5-1 before winning the nightcap 12-3.
 
The Knights will close out the three-game road series against the Storm on Saturday, Apr. 11 at 1 p.m.
 
 
Game Summary
  • Game One
    • Second Inning
      • Andrew Gallegos singled for the first hit of the game, but the Knights were unable to add any more hits, so the score remained 0-0 after two innings
    • Third Inning
      • Simpson used a three-hit two-out rally to bring across three runs in the bottom of the third to give the Storm a 3-0 lead
    • Fourth Inning
      • Andrew Robinson doubled for the Knights and Gallego's second single of the day moved him to third, but Simpson was able to escape the jam to keep the score 3-0
      • The Storm led off the bottom half with a solo shot to make it 4-0 before recording three-straight outs
    • Fifth Inning
      • Simpson added another run following a lead off walk that was brought around the bases after a wild pitch, flyout and then a sacrifice flyout that made the score 5-0
    • Seventh Inning
    • Ninth Inning
      • Despite an eighth inning double from Robinson and a ninth inning double from Aiden Tobin, the Knights fell to Simpson 5-1 in game one
  • Game Two
    • First Inning
      • The Knights jumped on the Storm in game two after Griffin Troha and Jayden Scott both walked between a single from Robinson to load the bases for Nagelmaker, who walked to bring in the first run of the game
      • Tanner Jackson continued the inning with a double down the left field line to bring two more runs across that gave Wartburg a 3-0 lead
    • Second Inning
      • Simpson got one run back in the bottom of the second after three singles allowed a runner to score
    • Third Inning
      • Both Gallegos and Conrad singled in the third, but the Knights were unable to tally any more runs
      • In the bottom half of the inning, the first five batters all recorded a hit for Simpson as the Storm used five total hits, two walks, a hit by pitch and an error to put up seven runs and take a 8-3 lead
    • Sixth Inning
      • Simpson added to its lead in the sixth inning with four runs from five hits to push the score to 12-3 with three innings left to play
    • Eighth Inning
      • The Storm used two walks, an error and a hit to bring one more run across to end the game in eight innings 13-3
