GREENWOOD, Ind. -- Wartburg College senior
Lance Sobaski has been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America® Second Team for the 2025-26 men's track & field/cross country season, the organization announced.
Sobaski (Brighton, Iowa/Washington) earns the first CSC Academic All-America® honor of his career while extending Wartburg's streak to six consecutive years with at least one CSC Academic All-American selection.
One of the nation's top distance runners, Sobaski collected NCAA Division III All-America honors across cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field during the 2025-26 academic year. He opened the year with a 13th-place finish at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in Spartanburg, South Carolina, earning cross country All-America recognition.
During the indoor season, Sobaski garnered First Team All-America honors in both the 3,000-meter run and the distance medley relay. He followed that with another standout outdoor campaign, finishing as the NCAA Division III national runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase while adding a fifth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run to earn two more All-America honors.
Sobaski was also named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week on March 30 after producing one of the fastest steeplechase performances in Division III history. Competing at the WashU Distance Carnival in St. Louis, Missouri, he crossed the finish line in 8:40.85, the third-fastest time in NCAA Division III history at the time.
More recently, Sobaski competed alongside Wartburg alumnus Christopher Collet at the Portland Track Festival, where he became just the fifth Division III athlete to break the 8:40 barrier in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Sobaski finished first in 8:37.25, followed by Collet in 8:38.49, with the performances ranking second and third, respectively, on the NCAA Division III all-time list.
Sobaski posted a 3.67 undergraduate GPA with a degree in Business Administration.
The CSC Academic All-America® men's track & field/cross country Division III team had eight repeat selections from the 2024-25 listings. The 15-member Division III first team had a 3.90 average undergraduate GPA. Additionally, the members of the CSC Academic All-America® men's track & field/cross country Division III teams had 15 student-athletes who hold a perfect 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate or graduate degree programs.
The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2025-26 Division III Academic All-America® program.
