WAVERLY, Iowa — The Wartburg College women's soccer team earned a 1-0 shutout victory over the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Saturday, with senior
Athena Sheets scoring the in the 24th minute to earn the victory.
The Knights improved to (2-3-1)] with the victory, while goalkeeper
Tulla Jensen anchored the defensive effort with seven saves to preserve the shutout - Jensen's second shutout of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jensen made two saves during the opening 16 minutes before Sheets recorded Wartburg's first two shots of the match. Sheets found the back of the net at 23:38, giving the Knights a 1-0 advantage with her first goal of the season.
The Orange and Black continued to apply pressure following the goal, earning three corner kicks between 28:11 and 32:16. Sheets added another shot during the stretch, while Jensen recorded her third save of the match at 35:43. Wartburg earned another corner kick and Gabby Staedlter added a late shot attempt as the Knights carried their one-goal advantage into halftime.
Wartburg generated early pressure in the second half, with shots from
Lupita Lopez,
Claire Lienhard and
Tessa Poppen all saved by the Pointers' goalkeeper. Lopez added another attempt that went wide as the Knights continued to threaten.
Jensen came up with two more saves shortly after a Wisconsin-Stevens Point corner kick at 53:11, stopping attempts from Christa Borchardt and Sophia Ryan.
Ella Turner recorded Wartburg's next shot at 58:09 before the Pointers mounted their strongest offensive push of the match.
From 70:02 to 81:53, Wisconsin-Stevens Point recorded six corner kicks and six shots, but Jensen stood tall in goal, making saves on attempts from Borchardt and Grace Peters. The Knights held the Pointers scoreless through the final minutes to secure the 1-0 victory.

Sheets finished with four shots, including the game-winning goal, while Jensen recorded seven saves across 90 minutes to earn the shutout.
The victory marked Sheets' first goal of the season, while Jensen and the Wartburg defense posted at least seven saves for the second consecutive match.
