WAVERLY, Iowa — The Knights defeated Bethel University 2-1 on Wednesday, Sept. 23 to mark their third-straight win.
Kenna Hemann set the tone early with a goal in the first five minutes of play before
Lupita Lopez netted her first career goal in the second half to give the Knights a 2-1 win at home.
Wartburg is now 4-3-1 overall and Bethel falls to 1-5 overall.
How It Happened
First Half
- Bethel (MN) earned two early corner kicks, but the Knights opened the scoring at 4:48 when Hemann scored off an assist from
Ella Turner for a 1-0 lead.
- The Knights added pressure with an
Athena Sheets shot on goal and a corner kick in the 10th minute before Bethel (MN) generated a stretch with five shots from 12:52 to 23:10;
Tulla Jensen made two saves during that run.

Tessa Poppen and Sheets each added shots for the Knights later in the half, while Jensen made another save at 25:58 and Bethel (MN) had a late corner before the Knights carried the 1-0 lead to halftime.
Second Half
- Jensen saved two Bethel (MN) shots in the opening 10 minutes of the half before the Knights earned a corner and Lopez scored at 57:27 to make it 2-0.
- Bethel (MN) generated five shots and a corner over the next stretch, and Jessica Oliver converted a penalty kick at 64:27 to bring the score to 2-1.
- The Knights kept attacking after the penalty, with
Lindsey Overmann and
Paige Lienhard adding shots and Lienhard hitting the woodwork at 71:54 before the Knights finished off the 2-1 win.
