ALDA, Neb. -- The Wartburg College clay target sports team collected multiple individual honors at the Prairie Circuit Conference (PCC) Championships, held Friday, Sept. 25 through Sunday, Sept. 27.

Kelly Maier led the way for the Knights with an impressive individual performance, earning All-PCC Freshman Team honors and High Overall (HOA) Lady Freshman recognition. Maier also claimed runner-up honors in the overall HOA competition, Lady Super Sporting Clays and the regular Sporting Clays division.

Megan Swartzendruber earned All-PCC Ladies Team recognition, while Hayley Burke secured runner-up honors in the HOA Lady Freshman competition.

Wartburg sent six competitors to the conference championships, the smallest team in the field. The Knights competed alongside Fort Hays State University, Concordia University, Midland University, William Penn University, Hastings College and the University of Nebraska.

"The PCCC has been one of the most prolific shoots in the country for decades now due to the high level of competition. This was our first opportunity to compete in a format of competition that resembles the one that the National Championship. Having the smallest and youngest team this weekend presented multiple unique challenges, but that's what made our successes even sweeter. The kids learned that they have the ability to compete with any other athlete on a given day, but we have a lot of work to do to have five athletes perform at that level at the same time.", said head coach Russell Malterud.
