Knights notes: Men – Coach Kirk Artist’s program earned a share of its fourth Iowa Conference title with a 3-0 win at Simpson Oct. 30. The win also earned the Orange and Black the top seed in the postseason event. The Knights have made it to the finals in each of the last eight years with five titles. … Wartburg (10-7), the two-time defending league tournament champion, plays fourth-seeded Central in one of two semifinals Friday. Start time is 7 p.m. … In the first meeting between the Knights and Dutch, Wartburg took a 4-0 win in Waverly. It’s the third time in four years the two sides have met in the semifinals. The Knights took a 2-0 win in 2008 and won a penalty kick cliffhanger in 2007. … Artist’s team got good news academically this week. Senior forward Jon Farrell of Washington, Mo., was a first team all-District VII CoSida (Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America)/ESPN academic selection with the team announcement Nov. 2. Farrell now moves on the national ballot for academic All-American consideration. … The Knights were also honored by the Iowa Conference this week. Senior midfielder Luke Prater of Springfield, Mo., was the league’s offensive Player of the Week. He scored two goals, including the game-winner, in the team’s conference-share-clinching win at Simpson. … Prater’s second multiple-goal outing in the last three matches continued to keep him in the team lead. He has eight going into the weekend. … Sophomore forward Brandon Cook of Bondurant (six goals), senior midfielder Eric Peters of Bartlett, Ill. (five goals) and Farrell (five goals) follow Prater. He’s also the team leader in points (19). … Other team leaders for the Orange and Black are Cook (shots – 43), Prater (game-winning goals – four), and freshman defender Bob Brown of Iowa City (assists – five). … Prater’s numbers do well on the IIAC statistics chart. He’s third in points per game (1.32) and tied for second in game-winning goals (.24 per game). Brown is tied for second in assists.
