Knights Fall to Dutch in Extra Innings

PELLA, Iowa-- The Wartburg College baseball team (7-10 overall, 0-3 IIAC) fell 3-2 in ten innings to Iowa Conference opponent, Central (12-3, 3-0) Sunday.

The Knights took the 1-0 lead in the first as sophomore Tony Stenberg (Atkins) sacrificed junior Andrew Krehbiel (Donnellson) home.

This remained the score until the fifth inning when freshman Blake Wilson (Bettendorf) sacrficed Krehbiel home to take the 2-0 lead.

The Dutch got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the frame and evened the score at 2-2 in the sixth.

Both teams had runners in scoring position over the next three innings but were unable to score any of those runners to send the game into extra innings.

The Orange and Black did not score in their half of the tenth and Central won on a walk-off single.

Wilson led the team with his perfect 4-4 at the plate and also added an RBI.

Junior Ryan Doty (Dubuque) pitched nine complete innings and struck out 10 in the outing.

Wartburg returns to the field Friday for a weekend series on the road against Dubuque.
