Wilson’s Career Day not enough as Knights Fall to Spartans

DUBUQUE, Iowa—Freshman Blake Wilson (Bettendorf) tied his career-high with his four hits, including his two-run home run in the seventh inning in Warburg’s 7-5 loss to Iowa Conference opponent, Dubuque.

The Knights took the 2-0 lead in the first thanks to three consecutive doubles.

The Spartans cut the lead to one with two consecutive doubles.

Each squad scored a run in the third to make the score 3-2.

Dubuque used a four-run fifth inning to take the 6-3 and tallied another run in the sixth.

The Orange and Black scored two in their seventh frame, thanks to the two-run homer by Wilson.

He led Wartburg at the plate (4-5) and tallied a new career-best with his three RBIs on the game.

Sophomore Ryan Powers (Wheatland) went 2-4 and junior Andrew Krehbiel (Donnellson) finished 2-5 at the dish. Classmate Ryan Doty (Dubuque) also went 2-5 as both hits were doubles.

Junior Scott Benson (Reinbeck) pitched 7.0 innings and struck out four.

Both teams return to the field Saturday for the doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m.
