WAVERLY, Iowa— The Wartburg baseball team (16-13 overall, 8-5 IIAC) defeated Iowa Conference opponent, Loras (14-14, 4-9) 9-2 in the nine-inning game of the weekend series Friday night.
The Knights tallied three runs in the first as freshman Blake Wilson (Bettendorf) drove in junior Andrew Krehbiel (Donnellson) on his single to centerfield.
Sophomore Ryan Powers (Wheatland) drove in Wilson on his single to left centerfield and Powers later scored on Chase Hirschauer’s (West Des Moines) single up the middle.
The Orange and Black tallied four in the third as Wilson scored on sophomore Jake Raecker’s (Waterloo) RBI single. Junior Levi Montague (Norway) slugged a two-run double to centerfield.
Montague scored the last run of the frame on sophomore Nick Massina’s (Waterloo) double down the rightfield line to make the score 7-0.
Wartburg extended its margin to eight as Powers scored on Montague’s groundout.
The Duhawks got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh on a two-run double.
The Knights added their final run in the eighth as Massina hit a leadoff triple and then scored on Krehbiel’s single.
Junior Ryan Doty (Dubuque) tallied ten strikeouts in his seven innings of work.
Massina and Krehbiel each went 2-4 while Wilson finished 2-5, Powers went 2-3 and Raecker finished 2-2.
Both teams return to the field tomorrow for the doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
