WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg baseball team (22-18 overall, 14-10 IIAC) defeated Iowa Conference opponent, Luther (22-18, 13-11), Monday in the nine-inning game.
The Norse got on the scoreboard in the second inning to take the early 2-0 lead, but the Knights answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame, which included an RBI double by Jake Raecker.
The Orange and Black tallied another two runs in the third as Andrew Krehbiel scored on Craig Kerper's single and Tony Stenberg scored on Ryan Powers' RBI double.
Luther compiled a rally in the top of the ninth but were only able to score one run as runners were stranded on first and second to give Wartburg the win.
Michael Schinstock led the team at the plate as he went 2-4 and Marcus Walczyk pitched six complete innings and struck out eight in the outing. Joe Moen recorded the save.
The Knights will now await the seeding announcements of the Iowa Conference tournament which is this weekend.
