WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg men's soccer team drew a 3-3 double overtime tie against UW-Oshkosh in its season opener, Friday.
The Titans took the 1-0 lead at 21:20 but sophomore Dan Nadeau (White Bear Lake, Minn.) connected on a corner kick by senior Kris Krohn (Cedar Rapids) to even the score at 38:22.
UW-Oshkosh's Tony Starnes netted his second goal of the day in the 59th minute to give his team the 2-1 lead.
The Knights knotted the score again as senior Luke Salzwedel (Middleton, Wis.) connected on a pass from sophomore Brady Anderson (Cedar Rapids) at 60:22.
Senior Brandon Cook (Bondurant) gave the Orange and Black the 3-2 lead with his goal at 66:55. Sophomore Zach Smith (Cedar Rapids) was credited with the assist.
The Titans were successful on their penalty kick attempt to even the score at 3-3 at 87:16.
In the two overtime sessions, Wartburg outshot UW-Oshkosh5-1, but both teams were unable to capitalize on its attempts.
The Knights return to the field Monday when they host Carleton College at 2 p.m.
