Knights Sweep Cardinals

MINNEAPOLIS-- Wartburg took both games of the doubleheader against Saint Mary's (Minnesota) at the HHH Metrodome late Sunday night.

The Knights won the first game in shutout fashion, 7-0 and won the second game 5-4.

In the first game, the Orange and Black jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Drew Yoder hit an RBI triple.

Wartburg continued to extend its lead as it tallied a run in the third and fourth before scoring three in the fifth inning to make the score 6-0.

The Knights plated their final run in the top of the seventh.

Ben Rettenmeier earned the win on the mound and surrendered only three hits.

Yoder and Blake Wilson each finished 2-4.

In the second game, the Orange and Black were ahead 2-0 after three innings.

The Cardinals evened the score in the top of the fourth, but Wartburg answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame.

Michael Schinstock hit a two-run triple and then scored on Levi Montague's sacrifice fly to regain the lead at 5-2.

Saint Mary's scored a run in the fifth and sixth but were retired in order in its final at-bats to seal the sweep for the Knights.

The Orange and Black return to the field Friday as they open their Iowa Conference portion of their schedule against Coe in Cedar Rapids. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
