Wartburg Splits Second Twinbill Against Simpson

INDIANOLA, Iowa-- Wartburg split the final doubleheader of the weekend Iowa Conference series with Simpson Saturday.

The Knights took the first game 6-4 but fell in the last game 8-5.

The Orange and Black now stand at13-3 overall and are 3-1 against IIAC opponents. The Storm are now 5-8, 1-3.

In the first game, Simpson jumped to an early 2-0 lead in its first at-bats.

Wartburg answered with five runs in the bottom of the frame, which included a two-run single from Michael Schinstock.

Both teams plated a run in the second to make the score 6-3 in favor of the Knights.

The Storm scored their final run in the fifth.

Ryan Doty not only led the team at the plate (2-3) put also picked up his third win on the mound as he pitched a complete game.

In the final game of the series, Simpson once again jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first and scored two additional runs in the second to take the 4-0 lead.

The Orange and Black sliced the lead in half with their two runs in the bottom of the second on three hits.

The Storm tallied two runs in the fourth and Wartburg answered with a run in the seventh and eighth innings to make the score 6-4 in Simpson's favor after eight complete innings.

The Storm scored two in the top of the ninth to make the score 8-5 before the Knights' last at-bats.

The Orange and Black were able to score one but unable to rally back.

Blake Wilson finished 3-5 while Drew Yoder and Andrew Krehbiel each finished 2-5.

Wartburg returns to the field Tuesday on the road against Coe in a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
