TUCSON, Ariz.-- The Wartburg baseball team defeated Saint Mary's (Minn.) 12-2 Monday morning to move to 2-0 on the young season.

The Cardinals took the early 1-0 lead in the third but the Knights stormed back with five runs in the top of the fourth which included a two-run double by senior Ryan Doty (Dubuque).

The Orange and Black plated three more in the fifth to extend their margin to 8-1.

Saint Mary's scored its final run in the bottom of the fram on an RBI single.

The score remained 8-2 until the top of the ninth when Wartburg tallied four runs.

Two consecutive singles and a walk loaded the bases for junior Michael Schinstock (Urbandale) who cleared them with a triple to left centerfield.

The next batter, Doty, drove in Schinstock on his single down the left side.

Junior Ryan Powers (Wheatland) led the team at the plate (3-5 with three runs scored) and Doty finished 3-5 with four RBIs.

Schinstock also had four RBIs which set a new career-best.

The Knights return to the field tomorrow for a twinbill against Iowa Wesleyan.
