Wartburg Completes Sweep of Loras

DUBUQUE, Iowa-- Wartburg completed the weekend series sweep as it won both games of Sunday's doubleheader agaisnt Loras to move its winning streak to six.

The Knights won the first game 5-1 and claimed the final game 4-0.

The Orange and Black were the first team on the scoreboard as they scored a run in the third inning.

Sophomore Blake Wilson (Bettendorf) drove in two on his single up the middle in the sixth inning to give Wartburg the 3-0 lead.

The Duhawks plated their lone run of the day in the bottom of the frame on a solo home run to left field.

Junior Ryan Powers (Wheatland) drove in the Knights' final two runs of the first game in the seventh on his single to right field.

Senior Drew Yoder (Wellman) led the team at the plate (2-3) and Powers finished 2-4.

Senior Ryan Doty (Dubuque) recorded his fifth win on the year on the mound and struck out six in the outing.

In the series finale, the Orange and Black struck first again as Yoder hit a sacrifice fly to right field which scored senior Andrew Krehbiel (Donnellson).

Wartburg plated two in the fifth and one in the ninth to seal the sweep.

Junior Marcus Walcyzk (Des Moines) earned his third win and senior Michael Schinstock (Urbandal) was credited with the save. Walcyzk had seven Ks and Schinstock had six.

Doty went 3-3 in the game and Yoder finished 2-4.

The Knights are off from competition due to finals week until Friday when they host Central in a weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
