Baseball Hosts Central in Weekend Series

WAVERLY, Iowa-- Wartburg (21-5 overall, 10-2 IIAC) hosts Iowa Conference opponent Central (15-8, 7-5) in a weekend series. The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. and the second twinbill Sunday at  time yet to be announced.

There will be a seven-inning game followed by a nine-inning game each day.

The All-Time Series:
Wartburg holds a 43-28 lead in the all-time series against Central. The Dutch took all three games of the series last year.

A Look at the Teams:
Central
:
Four players are above .300 to date. Robbie Rushing leads the Dutch with a .365 average. Sam Stenzel follows at .351, Adam Ariola, .317, and Andrew O’Toole, .300.

Ariola has a team-best 19 RBIs.

Ryan Dusil leads the starting pitching staff with a 4.88 ERA in 27.2 innings pitched. He is 3-0 with seven strikeouts.

Wartburg
Junior Ryan Powers (Wheatland) leads the team with a .434 average and seven doubles and is second with 22 RBIs.

Senior Drew Yoder (Wellman) was named the IIAC position Player of the Week and ranks second on the team in hitting at .404, with three doubles and 23 RBIs.

Two fellow Knights are averaging above .300. Senior Ryan Doty (Dubuque) and sophomore Blake Wilson (Bettendorf) are hitting .329 and .322, respectively.

Wilson co-leads the team with 23 RBIs.

Doty is the leading pitcher with a 2.06 ERA and is 5-0 in 35.0 innings of work.
