Baseball Takes First Twinbill Against Central

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The baseball team won the first doubleheader in the weekend series against Iowa Conference school, Central, Saturday.

The Knights claimed the first game 2-1 and the second game, 5-2 to move their winning streak to eight.

The first game was scoreless until the fifth inning when senior Levi Montague (Norway) drove in junior Clay Emmrich (Plainfield, Ill.) on his RBI double.

The Dutch answered with a run in the top of the sixth to tie the score at one all.

The Orange and Black won as pinch-runner freshman Robbie Anstoetter (Farley) scored from second on a Central fielding error and was called safe at the plate.

Senior Scott Benson (Reinbeck) pitched a complete game and fanned seven in the outing.

In the second game, the Knights took the early 1-0 lead in the first as junior Ryan Powers (Wheatland) drove in senior Andrew Krehbiel (Donnellson).

The Dutch tied the score in the fourth but the Orange and Black answered with two runs in the sixth as senior Tony Stenberg (Atkins) drove in Powers and classmate Drew Yoder (Wellman) to regain the 3-1 lead.

Central plated its final run of the day in the eighth while Wartburg scored its final runs in the seventh and eighth.

Junior Ben Rettenmeier (Cedar Rapids) recorded his team-best sixth win on the mound and senior Michael Schinstock (Urbandale) tallied his third save of the season.

Both teams return to the field Sunday at 11 a.m.
