Conference Tournament Next for #21 Baseball

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa-- --- The pairings have been finalized for the 2013 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Baseball Tournament, which gets underway Thursday, May 9 in Cedar Rapids.

The tournament, which is celebrating its 10th year in Cedar Rapids, opens with two first-round games at 1 p.m. Thursday. Fourth-seeded Central (12-14 IIAC) will face fifth-seeded Simpson (12-16 IIAC) at Daniels Park, home field of Coe College, while third-seeded Buena Vista (15-13) faces sixth-seeded Loras (11-15) at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium, home of the Cedar Rapids Kernels, the Class A Midwest League affiliate of the Minnesota Twins.

Conference champion Wartburg and second-seeded Coe received first-round byes. The Kohawks take to the field first, meeting the winner of the Buena Vista-Loras matchup at 4 p.m. Thursday, while the Knights will tangle with the Central-Simpson winner in Thursday's nightcap slated for 7 p.m. Both games will be played at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The double-elimination tournament continues Friday and Saturday. The tournament champion receives the Iowa Conference's automatic berth to the 2013 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship. Coe College is the two-time defending tournament champion.

Wartburg notes:
-The Knights will make their 20th straight appearance in the IIAC tournament which equates to every year the tournament has existed.
-Wartburg is the No. 1 seed for the eighth time.
-The Orange and Black have won the conference tournament eight times and most recently in 2009.

Game 7 – Game 5 winner vs. lower-seeded Game 3/4 loser#, 4 p.m.
Game 8 – Game 7 winner vs. higher-seeded Game 3/4 loser#, 7 p.m.
Saturday, May 11
Game 9 – Game 8 winner vs. Game 6 loser, 10 a.m.
Game 10 – Game 6 winner vs. Game 9 winner, 1 p.m.
Game 11 – Game 6 winner vs. Game 9 winner, 4 p.m. (if necessary)
