Box ScoreVideo HighlightsWAVERLY, Iowa-- Sixth-ranked Wartburg moved to 6-0 on the year and 3-0 in Iowa Conference games with its 42-9 win over Dubuque (2-4, 1-2) Saturday in the annual Homecoming game.
The Knights started their first drive with great field position (at the 50-yard line) and compiled a seven-play drive that junior Brandon Domeyer (Manchester) capped off with a 14-yard touchdown run to take the early 7-0 lead, just four minutes into the game.
The Spartans answered on their ensuing drive as they got on the board with a 25-yard touchdown pass to even the score.
Both teams went three-and-out on their next possesion, and the Orange and Black once again capitalized on the great field position (Dubuque 45-yard line) as junior Logan Schrader (Killdeer, Ill.) found classmate Robbie Anstoetter (Farley) for a 23-yard touchdown pass as Wartburg regained the lead (14-7).
Anstoetter and Schrader connected for the next score for the Knights in the second quarter, this time on a five-yard pass to extend the margin to 20-7 with 7:38 left in the half.
Later in the quarter, Wartburg was held deep in its own territory and the punter stepped out of bounds behind the endzone which resulted in a safety for Dubuque.
The Knights got the ball at the start of the third quarter and on their second play of the drive, Domeyer had a 54-yard touchdown to make the score 27-9.
Senior Taylor Jacobsmeier (Wapello) had the next touchdown for the Orange and Black on his seven-yard run. Wartburg then went for the two-point conversion and was successful as the holder, junior Mitch Frerichs (New Hampton), threw it to senior Jake Holsteen (Mediapolis) to bring the score to 35-9 with 3:42 in the quarter.
Sophomore Jake Haberman (Clarion) scored the Knights' final touchdown of the game on his nine-yard run.
Domeyer led the team on the ground with 130 yards on 19 carries for two touchdowns. This was his second game this season with 100+ yards and seventh 100-yard game of his career.
Schrader finished 11-20-1 for 133 yards and two touchdowns.
Anstoetter led all receivers with 43 yards on three catches for two touchdowns.
Junior Gunner Tranel (Cedar Rapids) led the defense with 11 tackles (four solo, seven assists) and classmate Will Janssen (Mediapolis) joined him in double digits with 10 tackles.
Wartburg returns to the field next Saturday as they host Luther at 1 p.m.
