Knights Split With Storm

Powers went 3-4 in game two.
INDIANOLA, Iowa-- Wartburg split its first twinbill with Simpson Saturday. The Knights won 5-4 in 10 innings in the first meeting and fell 2-1 in the second meeting.

In the first game, the Orange and Black took the 3-0 lead in the third. The Storm plated one in the bottom of the frame to make the score 3-1.

In the sixth, Clay Emmrich struck out but reached first on a dropped third strike. Pinch-runner Brady Larson advanced to third on Michael Schinstock's single and scored on Tyler Willis' fielder's choice to take the 4-1 lead.

The Storm scored three in the bottom of the inning to knot the game at four all.

Neither team scored in the seventh to send the game to extra innings. The score remained 4-4 until Schinstock drove in Ryan Kemp for the game-winning RBI in the top of the tenth.

Simpson had one last at-bat. The leadoff batter grounded out, the next guy drew a walk, but Wartburg sealed the win on a double-play.

Ben Rettenmeier pitched nine complete innings and was two strikeouts shy of his career-best as he had 11 on the game.

In the second game, the Storm took the 1-0 lead in the second until the Knights tied it in the fourth on Tyler Mougin's sacrifice fly that scored Blake Wilson. Simpson won the game in the bottom of the seventh on a walk-off wild pitch.

The two teams return to the field tomorrow for the final doubleheader of the conference series.
