INDIANOLA, Iowa-- Wartburg split the second doubleheader of the weekend series with Simpson Sunday.
The Knights claimed the first game 3-1 but fell 9-8 in the finale.
The Orange and Black took the early 1-0 lead in the second inning of the first inning as Craig Kerper hit a sacrifice fly to score Blake Wilson.
The Storm scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the third.
Wartburg added a run in the fourth on an RBI double from Joe Grote to regain the lead at 2-1. DJ Utley sealed the win with his solo home run in the sixth.
Michael Schinstock pitched the complete game and struck out eight.
In the finale, the Knights jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first on an RBI single from Ryan Kemp and a double from Utley.
Simpson tied the score with two runs in the second before plating four in the third to make the score 6-2.
Tyler Mougin drove in Kerper in the fourth but the Storm answered with a run of their own to bring the score to 7-3. Ryan Kemp slugged a leadoff solo shot in the fifth before the Orange and Black scored three in the sixth.
Simpson plated two in the bottom of the frame which made the score 9-7. Emmrich drove in Grote on his RBI single to bring the margin to one.
Emmrich went 3-4 in the game. Wartburg returns to the field Tuesday when they travel to face Luther at 1 p.m.
