ST. PETER, Minn.-- The No. 16 Wartburg men's soccer team opened the season in shutout fashion Friday with its 2-0 win over Concordia-Moorhead.
Senior Dan Nadeau (White Bear Lake, Minn.) netted the first goal of the year on a pass from sophomore Kimu Kasha (Cedar Rapids) at 23:33.
The score remained 1-0 until sophomore Paris Martins (Coralville) scored at 63:08 on a pass from classmate Nick Brown (Solon).
Sophomore Donald Ticknor (Waterloo) earned not only his first win, but his first shutout victory.
The Knights' defense shut down the Cobbers' offense and allowed only three shots, none of which were on goal.
As a team, the Orange and Black held the advantage in shots (22-3), shots on goal (10-0) and corner kicks (5-2).
Wartburg returns to action Saturday against Gustavus Adolphus at 2 p.m.
