No. 13 Wartburg Sweeps Loras Saturday

DUBUQUE, Iowa-- The No. 13 Wartburg baseball team took the final doubleheader agaisnt Loras Saturday as it won 10-3 in eight innings and the finale, 9-3.

In the first game, the Knights took the early lead as senior DJ Utley (Cedar Rapids) scored on sophomore Ty Mougin's (Walford) single to right field.

The Duhawks tied the score in the third and the Orange and Black regained the lead in the fifth on a leadoff homerun by junior Milton Croes (Noord, Aruba) and Mougin scored on junior Tyler Willis' (Waverly) triple.

Loras evened the score once more in the bottom of the seventh, but Wartburg turned a double play to end the scoring threat and to send the game into extra innings. The Knights broke out the bats in the eighth as they scored seven runs on six hits to take the 10-3 lead. The Duhawks were retired in order to give the win to Wartburg.

In the finale, the Knights again took the early lead with three runs in their first at-bats. The Orange and Black extended their lead in the second to make the score 7-0 and plated an additiona run in the third to bring it to 8-0.

Loras got on the scoreboard in the fourth with three runs and Wartburg plated its final run in the fifth.

Junior Ryan Kemp (Keokuk) went 3-4 at the plate.

The Knights return to the field Tuesday on the road as they travel to face Luther.
