No. 13 Baseball Travels to Luther Tuesday

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The No. 13 Wartburg baseball team (26-7 overall, 16-6 IIAC) travels to face Luther (16-14, 11-7) in the final doubleheader of the series Tuesday at 1 p.m. The Knights are first in the IIAC standings, while the Norse are second. These games will also feature the top two hitting teams in the conference.

The Series
Wartburg leads the all-time series 65-39 and won the first twinbill of the season on March 31, 5-0 and 8-6.

Six players are averaging above .300: sophomore Jake Thumann (DeWitt) leads the team at .376, senior DJ Utley (Cedar Rapids) follows closely at .375, junior Ryan Kemp (Keokuk) is at .372, senior Blake Wilson (Bettendorf) is hitting .363, junior designated hitter Milton Croes (Noord, Aruba) is at .328 and classmate Tyler Willis (Waverly) is at .304.

Thumann has a team-best 16 doubles, Kemp leads the squad in triples (3) and Utley has a team-high nine homeruns and 35 RBIs.

Among IIAC players, Thumann has the fifth-best average (.365) and Wilson is tenth (.357). Wilson is third in hits (30) and Kemp is fourth (28). Utley leads the conference with 26 RBIs, Thumann in homeruns (7) and Kemp in triples (3). Senior Jackson Litterer (Waverly) has stolen a league-best 14 bases.

Luther
The Norse enter Tuesday on a five-game winning streak. They have four players above .300: Matt Larson (.377), Aldon Severson (.364), Carlos Pineda (.352) and Alex Weber (.314).

Alec Knop is the top starting pitcher with his 5.21 ERA.
