WAVERLY, Iowa-- The No. 8 Wartburg baseball team (27-8 overall, 17-7 IIAC) hosts Simpson (9-22, 5-15) in the final conference series, Sunday at 1 p.m. and Monday at 3:30 p.m. The teams will play a seven-inning game followed by a nine-inning game each day. The program's Class of 2015 members will be recognized Sunday.
The SeriesThe Knights hold the all-time series lead at 59-44. The teams split the four-game series last season.
WartburgFive Knights are hitting above .300: senior Blake Wilson (Bettendorf) at .382, classmate DJ Utley (Cedar Rapids) at .373, sophomore Jake Thumann (DeWitt) at .371, junior Ryan Kemp (Keokuk) at .365 and junior Milton Croes (Noord, Aruba) at .317.
Wilson has a team-best 14 doubles, Kemp leads the squad with three triples, and Utley has nine home runs and 38 RBI.
Sophomore Max Langheinrich (Minnetonka, Minn.) leads the starting pitchers with a 2.68 ERA and is 4-0 on the hill.
As of April 19, Wartburg led all of Division III in home runs and home runs/game. Individually, Utley is seventh in home runs and 14
th in home runs/game.
