WATERLOO, Iowa-- The No. 11 Wartburg baseball team (30-10 overall) fell 6-4 to St. Thomas (20-13-1) Friday.
The Tommies took the early lead as they scored four in their first at-bats and added another run in the second.
The Knights jumped on the board in the third as senior Jackson Litterer (Waverly) scored on junior Ryan Kemp's (Keokuk) single to left field for a successful hit and run. The next batter, senior DJ Utley (Cedar Rapids) then hit a two-run homerun to make the score 5-3.
This remained the score until the Orange and Black came within one in the sixth as junior Milton Croes (Noord, Aruba) scored on Litterer's single. St. Thomas scored its final run in the eighth on an RBI groundout. Wartburg was unable to answer with a rally to give the Tommies the win.
Utley went 2-4 at the plate and Litterer was 2-5. The Knights are off from competition until the Iowa Conference Tournament on Thursday, May 7 at 7 p.m. in Cedar Rapids.
