CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa-- The No. 12 Wartburg baseball team (31-12 overall) fell 6-3 to Coe in the Iowa Conference Tournament championship bracket game Friday.
The Knights will play at 10 a.m. Saturday against the winner of the 7 p.m. game later tonight.
The Kohawks took the early 2-0 lead in the third on an RBI double and single. The Orange and Black tied the game in the bottom of the fourth as junior Ryan Kemp (Keokuk) drove in classmate Tyler Willis (Waverly) on his double down the right field line and Kemp scored on junior Milton Croes' (Noord, Aruba) double down the left field line.
Coe regained the lead at 4-2 in the top of the fifth and Kemp sliced the margin to one as he drove in Willis again on his single to right centerfield.
The Kohawks would tally a run in the seventh and ninth to seal the win as Wartburg was retired in order in the final two frames.
Kemp went 3-4 and senior DJ Utley (Cedar Rapids) went 2-4. Willis went 2-5 with two runs scored.
