CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa-- The Wartburg baseball team (32-12 overall) fell 12-7 to Coe (31-12) in the Iowa Conference Tournament Championship game Saturday.
The Kohawks took the 1-0 lead in the first but senior Jackson Litterer (Waverly) hit not only his first career home run but first grand slam of his career in the second to take the 4-1 lead.
This remained the score until Coe plated one in the fifth and used a six-run six inning to take the 8-4 lead. The Knights got two runs back in the bottom of the frame on an RBI double from junior Milton Croes (Noord, Aruba) and later scored on a wild pitch.
Coe tallied three runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to make it 12-6. The Orange and Black plated their final run in the eighth as Croes scored on a double down the left field line by senior Matt Kruger (Shoreview, Minn.).
Croes finished 3-3 with three runs while senior Blake Wilson (Bettendorf) went 2-5.
Wartburg will now await the NCAA Tournament bracket announcement Monday morning to see if it received an at-large bid.
