Knights Host St.Thomas

The baseball team (6-4 overall) will host the University of St. Thomas on Sunday in a doubleheader that starts at noon.
 


Wartburg
Four Knights are currently averaging over .300. Sophomore Zach Hovick (Roland) leads the team at .444. Sophomore Clay Henning (Plymouth, Wis.) follows with .421. Seniors Robbie Anstoetter (Farley) and Milton Croes (Noord, Aruba) are hitting .333 and .310, respectively. Junior Jacob Thumann (DeWitt) has a team-best three homeruns so far this season. Senior Parker Bolt (Reinbeck) leads the starting pitchers with an ERA of 1.89 and 19 innings pitched. Junior Taylor Gilson (Oelwein) has a team-best 25 strikeouts.
 
St. Thomas
The Tommies open their season on Saturday against Central College. The team was not picked in the D3Baseball.com preseason top 25 poll, but was chosen for second in the MIAC pre-season poll, right behind Bethel. The team will return two All-Region honorees, seniors Eric Veglahn and Brady Johnson.

National Stat Rankings
The baseball team is ranked in the top 100 in five statistical categories, as released by the NCAA.
 
The team is ranked 5th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.50), 30th in WHIP (1.12), 52nd in double plays per game (1.00), 56th in earned run average (2.94) and 67th in double plays (8).
 
Individually, three Knights are ranked in the top 100 in six statistical categories. Junior Max Langheinrich (Minnetonka, Minn.) is ranked 5th in complete games (2) and 44th in WHIP (0.62). Classmate Taylor Gilson (Oelwein) is ranked 4th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (20.00) and 48th in strikeouts per nine innings (12.56). Another junior, Jacob Thumann (DeWitt) is ranked 41st in home runs (2).
