No. 25 Wartburg Hosts Luther in Second Half of Conference Series

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The No. 25 Wartburg baseball team(19-7 overall, 12-2 IIAC) hosts Luther (19-7, 8-6) in the second doubleheader of the conference series Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. The two teams played the first half in Decorah April 6 where the Knights won 7-2 and 8-5.

The Series
Wartburg owns the all-time series lead at 69-43.

Sophomore Zach Hovick (Roland) leads the team with his .419 batting average and 21 RBIs. Classmate Clay Henning (Plymouth, Wis.), seniors Milton Croes (Noord, Aruba) and Tanner Johnson (Oak Creek, Wis.), and junior Jake Thumann (DeWitt) join him above .300 at .358, .338, .321 and .311, respectively.

Thumann enters today on a nine-game hitting streak and has safely reached base in the last 13 contests. Senior Tyler Willis (Waverly) has a five-game hitting streak, and Henning has safely reached base in the last 11 games.

Sophomore Tanner Eckhart (Monticello, Minn.) leads the starting pitchers with a 1.18 ERA and is 3-0 in 45.2 innings on the mound.

Luther
Mitch Knippenberg and Jon Opdahl lead the team at the plate with .446 and .429 averages, respectively. Four teammates join them above .300: Joe Silversmith, .382; Bryce Hingst, .370; Alex Weber, .340; and Jake Halverson, .300.

Nate Beckman leads the pitchers with his 1.95 ERA and is 5-1 in 37 innings pitched.
