No. 16/19 Wartburg's Run Ends in NCAA Tournament

SAUGET, Ill.-- The No. 16/19 Wartburg baseball team fell 5-1 to Washington University-St. Louis Friday to finish the season 34-13. This loss ended the Knights' run in the NCAA Tournament.

The Bears were the first team on the board on a double off the left centerfield wall in the first inning to take the 1-0 lead.

WashU used a three-run third inning to extend its lead to 4-0.

Junior Jake Thumann (DeWitt) plated the only run of the game on his solo homer that was ruled fair. It appeared to go left of the foul pole, but the umpires met to discuss and upheld the fair call.

He extended his hitting streak to 15 games and reached base safely in the last 18 to mark season-bests.

The Bears scored their final run in the eighth on a squeeze bunt.

Junior Max Langheinrich (Minnetonka, Minn.) pitched the complete game and fanned seven on the day.

The Orange and Black are now 20-26 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.

Note:  WB defeated UW-Stevens Point at last year's NCAA Regional who was coached by Pat Bloom who is now WashU's head coach.
-Croes and sophomore Tanner Eckhart (Monticello, Minn.) were named to the NCAA Central Regional All-Tournament team
