Knights Fall to Engineers

WINTER HAVEN, Fla.-- The Wartburg baseball team (2-4 overall) fell 7-1 to Rose Hulman (1-3) Wednesday. The Engineers were the first team on the board as they plated four in the bottom of the first.

The Knights did not allow another Rose Hulman baserunner past first base until the seventh inning as the Engineers scored one in the frame and two in the eighth to make it 7-0.

The Orange and Black opened the top of the ninth with a leadoff single from junior Cody Hyler (Des Moines) who advanced to second as classmate David Fitzgerald (Dubuqe) drew a walk. The runners moved up on a wild pitch and Hyler scored on a sacrifice fly by  junior Blake Mahoney (Des Moines). That would be the end of the rally as the next batters struck out and grounded into a force out.

Fitzgerald went 2-3 and senior Michael Knouse (Davenport) pitched 5.0 complete innings and struck out four.

Wartburg has its day off tomorrow and returns to the field Friday against Otterbein.
