Baseball Travels to face Concordia Chicago, No. 29 Webster

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg baseball team (7-7 overall) travels to Sauget, Ill. to face Concordia Chicago (7-6) and No. 29 Webster (8-6) Sunday. The Knights will play the Cougars at 10 a.m. and the Gorloks at 1 p.m.

Concordia Chicago
Just like last weekend, Bryan VanDuser is the team's leading hitter (.418). Three players join him above .300: Mitch Wilson (.377), Brendan Klein (.314) and Brent Spohr (.304).

Keaton Connor continues to lead the starting pitching staff with his 1.57 ERA in 23.0 innings pitched with 21 strikeouts.

Webster
The Gorloks received the No. 29 spot in the ABCA Top 30 poll this week.

Wardlaw leads the team at the plate (.333) and Tholl follows at .314. Fleming leads the pitchers with a 0.64 ERA in 28.0 innings of work with 35 Ks.

Wartburg
Junior Blake Mahoney (Des Moines) has a team-best .421 batting average. Five teammates join him above .300: junior Eric Willis (Waverly) at .382, senior Austin Lechtenberg (DeWitt) at .375, junior Cody Hyler (Des Moines) at .343 and classmate David Fitzgerald (Dubuque) at .326.

Seniors Jacob Thumann (DeWitt) and Samuel Van Fleet (St. Paul) co-lead the team with 11 RBIs.

Classmate Taylor Gilson (Oelwein) leads the pitchers with a 4.09 ERA, is 3-1 in 33.0 innings pitched with 30 strikeouts.

Career Record Watch
Thumann needs six home runs to become the program's all-time leader in that category. Gilson has entered the top ten list at No. 10 in strikeouts (160).

National Stat Rankings
Wartburg ranks in the top 100 of nine NCAA stat categories.

The Knights rank 9th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.38), 9th in walks allowed per nine innings (2.21), 29th in fielding percentage (0.972), 37th in sacrifice flies (9), 46th in WHIP (1.33), 67th in home runs (7), 78th in stolen bases (24), 82nd in home runs per game (0.50), and 88th in hits (145).

Individually, three Knights rank in the top 100 of three different categories. Senior Jacob Thumann (DeWitt, Iowa) ranks 48th in home runs (3). Senior Taylor Gilson (Oelwein, Iowa) ranks 7th in complete games (2).

Junior Tanner Eckhart (Monticello, Minn) ranks 21st in strikeout-to-walk ratio (11.00).
