Baseball Travels to Face Coe for First Part of Conference Series

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg baseball team (21-10 overall, 12-3 IIAC) travels to face Coe (19-11, 11-7) in the doubleheader part of the conference series Tuesday at 1 p.m. Both teams bring a three-game winning streak into the matchup.

The Series
Wartburg owns the all-time series lead at 54-32. The Knights won three of the four regular-season games in the conference series last year and the meeting in the conference tournament.

Coe
Jacob Burns leads his team with a .390 average and Andrew Brierton follows at .382. Thomas Schaedel leads the starting pitching staff with a 1.43 ERA, is 6-0 in 50.1 innings pitched with 39 strikeouts.

Wartburg
Junior Blake Mahoney (Des Moines) has a team-best .397 batting average. Six teammates join him above .300: junior Eric Willis (Waverly) at .376, senior Jacob Thumann (DeWitt) at .359, junior Cody Hyler (Des Moines) at .344, junior David Fitzgerald (Dubuque) at .330, senior Austin Lechtenberg (DeWitt) at .329, and junior Zach Hovick (Roland) at .311.

Mahoney leads the team with 31 RBIs, and Thumann follows with 30.

Senior Taylor Gilson (Oelwein) leads the starting pitchers with a 2.92 ERA and is 6-1 in 71.0 innings pitched with 60 strikeouts.

Career Record Watch
Thumann has tied the program's mark for career home runs at 28, which was set by Wartburg Athletics Hall of Fame member Matt Thede in 2001. Gilson is No. 7 in strikeouts (190).

The Knights rank sixth in strikeout-to-walk ratio ( 3.25), seventh in walks allowed/ nine innings (2.31), 15th in fielding percentage (.971), 19th in WHIP (1.26), 48th in ERA ( 3.79), 55th in batting average (0.317 ), 73rd in strikeout to walk ratio (7.5), 75th and W/L percentage (.643), 76th in home runs per game (.61), 79th in hits allowed/nine innings (9.06), 83rd in stolen bases (48), 85th in home runs (17), 92nd in stolen bases (48), and 93rd in on base percentage ( .395 ).

Individually,one Knight ranks in the top 100 of two different categories as Thumann ranks 21st in home runs (8) and 24th in home runs/game (0.29).
