Baseball Series Against Central Changed

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg baseball's weekend conference series against Central has been MOVED TO WAVERLY.

The teams will play the doubleheader Saturday at 10 a.m. and the single game is TBD.

Wartburg (23-10 overall, 14-3 IIAC) hosts Central (18-16, 10-8) in a weekend conference series. The Knights have won the last eight-straight over the Dutch.

Central
Seth Griffiths leads the team at .364 and Garrett Saunders follows at .341. Billy Coppage leads the starting pitching staff with a 2.93 ERA and is 3-2 in 43.0 innings pitched.

Wartburg
Junior Blake Mahoney (Des Moines) has a team-best .404 batting average. Six teammates join him above .300: junior Eric Willis (Waverly) at .385, junior Cody Hyler (Des Moines) at .365, senior Jacob Thumann (DeWitt) at .362, junior David Fitzgerald (Dubuque) at .321, senior Austin Lechtenberg (DeWitt) at .316, and senior Mike Brown (Bettendorf) at .312.

Thumann leads the team with 34 RBIs and Mahoney follows with 33.

Senior Taylor Gilson (Oelwein) leads the starting pitchers with a 3.43 ERA and is 7-1 in 76.0 innings pitched with 62 strikeouts.

Career Record Watch
Thumann has become the career leader in home runs at 29 which was previously set at 28 by Wartburg Athletics Hall of Fame member Matt Thede in 2001. Gilson is No. 7 in strikeouts (192).
