WAVERLY, Iowa-- Coe (20-14 overall, 12-9 IIAC) avoided the season sweep against Wartburg (26-11, 17-4) Tuesday in its 7-4 comeback win as the Knights claimed both games of the doubleheader last week in Cedar Rapids. This also snapped Wartburg's eight-game winning streak.
Each team tallied a run in the second on sacrifice flies and junior Cody Hyler (Des Moines) continued his hot streak as he gave the Orange and Black the 3-1 lead with his two-run single to right centerfield.
The Kohawks broke up the no-hitter in the seventh with four consecutive hits and plated four runs on five hits to take the 5-3 lead.
Junior Blake Mahoney (Des Moines) would score the final run for Wartburg in the seventh as he hit a leadoff double and advanced on wild pitches.
Coe scored its final two runs in the eighth and the Knights were unable to compile a rally to give the win to the visitors.
Hyler went 2-4 with three RBIs and junior Eric Willis (Waverly) also went 2-4. One other note is that junior Clay Henning (Plymouth, Wis.) moved his reached base streak to 33 consecutive games.
The Orange and Black will end their regular season at with a conference series against Dubuque which begins Friday at 6 p.m.
