LINCOLN, Neb.-- The Wartburg baseball team (12-5 overall, 3-0 IIAC) shutout Nebraska Wesleyan (4-13, 0-6) 9-0 Saturday which completed the conference series sweep.
The Knights also moved their overall winning streak to six games.
The Orange and Black got on the board with two runs in the second. Freshman Parker Ridge (Marion) scored in the fifth on an a passed ball to extend the margin to 3-0. Three runs were scored in the fifth on an error, passed ball, and a sacrifice fly from freshman JoJo McNair (Joliet, Ill.).
Wartburg added three more runs in the ninth as Ridge scored on senior David Fitzgerald's (Dubuque) groundout, and then classmate Eric Willis (Waverly) hit a two-run single up the middle.
NWU had just one baserunner advance to second in the game.
Freshman Dylan Gotto (Peosta) pitched eight complete innings and fanned seven in the outing to earn the win.
Ridge went 4-4 with an RBI and three runs scored.
The Knights return to the field on the road Monday at Simpson. This twinbill was moved up a day due to rain/snow in the forecast for Tuesday.
