Baseball Travels to Face Dubuque

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg baseball team (15-8 overall, 6-3 IIAC) travels to face Dubuque (12-12, 7-2) in a weekend series. The Spartans are second and the Knights are fourth in the conference standings.

The Series
Wartburg leads 89-32. The Knights won two of three last season.

Wartburg
Freshman JoJo McNair (Joliet, Ill.) leads the team with his .310 average. Senior Cody Hyler (Des Moines) and sophomore Tyler Hovick (Roland) follow at .305 and .300, respectively.

Senior Zach Hovick (Roland) has a team-high 21 RBIs, while classmate Eric Willis (Waverly) has a team-best 14 stolen bases and McNair follows with 13.

Senior Tanner Eckhart (Monticello, Minn.) leads the starting pitchers with a 1.02 ERA, is 4-1 with 44 strikeouts in 44.1 innings pitched.

Career Record Watch
Senior Blake Mahoney (Des Moines) is now sixth in stolen bases (56). Classmate Clay Henning (Plymouth, Wis.) is fourth in assists (339).

Dubuque
The Spartans have four above .300 as Jack Lasswell leads the team at .337. Jared Clevenger and Michael Hoffman both follow at .333, and Dalton Garst is at .330.

Tyler Carlson leads the starting pitching staff with a 2.22 ERA, is 2-1 in 24.1 innings pitched with 15 strikeouts.

Wartburg ranks in the top 100 of nine statistical categories, which the NCAA released Monday.
 
The Knights rank 3rd in fielding percentage (.98), 29th in walks allowed per nine innings (2.91), 38th in WHIP (1.29), 40th in stolen bases per game (2.26), 51st in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.41), 53rd in earned run average (3.55), 63rd in stolen bases (52), 71st in hits allowed per nine innings (8.73), and 85th in won-lost percentage (.652).
 
Individually, one Knight ranks in the top 100 of four statistical categories: Eckhart ranks 12th in earned run average (1.02), 27th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (8.8), 36th in WHIP (.9), and 37th in walks allowed per nine innings (1.02).
