Wartburg Hosts Loras

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg baseball team (14-5 overall, 5-0 IIAC) hosts Loras (13-5, 2-1) in a weekend series. The teams will play the doubleheader Saturday starting at noon and the single nine-inning game will be Sunday at 11 a.m.

The Knights are in first and the Duhawks are sixth on the conference standings.

The Series
The Knights own the series lead at 81-46. Wartburg has won the last 10 straight games in the matchup.

Senior Zach Hovick (Roland) leads the team with his .333 average, three doubles, and 18 RBIs. Classmate Cody Hyler (Des Moines) is second at .324 and senior Eric Willis (Waverly) has a team-best 13 stolen bases.

Senior Tanner Eckhart (Monticello, Minn.) leads the starting pitchers with a 1.22 ERA, is 4-1 with 34 strikeouts in 37.0 innings pitched.

Career Record Watch
Senior Blake Mahoney (Des Moines) is seventh in stolen bases (53). Classmate Clay Henning (Plymouth, Wis.) is fourth in assists (333).

Loras
Danny Weis leads his team at .403. Robert Hovey leads the pitchers with a 2.31 ERA, is 2-2 with 21 strikeouts in 23.1 innings pitched.

The Knights rank 1st in fielding percentage (.983), 12th in WHIP (1.18), 16th in shutouts (3), 19th in walks allowed per nine innings (2.68), 35th in hits allowed per nine innings (7.97), 39th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.68), 53rd in won-lost percentage (.706), 53rd in earned run average (3.47), 55th in stolen bases per game (2.12), 76th in stolen bases (36), and 84th in double plays per game (.82).
 
Individually, three Knights rank in the top 100 of seven statistical categories: Eckhart ranks 6th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (17), 17th in walks allowed per nine innings (.49), 27th in WHIP (.81), 46th in victories (4), and 48th in earned run average (1.22); Willis ranks 29th in stolen bases per game (.76) and 33rd in stolen bases (13); and senior Austin Bohling (Letts) ranks 23rd in saves (4).
