Baseball Travels to Face Buena Vista to Conclude Regular Season

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg baseball team (23-10 overall, 14-5 IIAC) travels to face Buena Vista (13-20, 9-11) in the final weekend series of the regular season. The Knights are the top team on the conference standings, while BV is sixth.

The Series
Wartburg holds the series lead against at 73-56 and have won the last six-straight.

Senior Zach Hovick (Roland) leads the team with his .325 average. Classmate Cody Hyler (Des Moines) joins him above .300 at .310. Senior David Fitzgerald (Dubuque) has a team-high 24 RBIs and Hovick follows at 22.

Freshman JoJo McNair (Joliet, Ill.) and senior Eric Willis (Waverly) co-lead the team with 18 stolen bases.

Senior Tanner Eckhart (Monticello, Minn.) leads the starting pitchers with a 1.29 ERA, is 5-2 with 63 strikeouts in 63.0 innings pitched.

Career Record Watch
Senior Blake Mahoney (Des Moines) is now sixth in stolen bases (57). Classmate Clay Henning (Plymouth, Wis.) is fourth in assists (359). Senior Austin Bohling (Letts) is tied for first with 14 saves and Eckhart is ninth in strikeouts (182).

Single Season Record
Bohling continues to extend his margin as the single season leader in saves.

Buena Vista
BV has six players above .300. Peyton Renning leads the team at .358. Alex Savary follows at .357, Devin Wagenman at .323, Tyler Tennyson at .305, Bryce Rheault at .300 and Coleman Roberts at .300.

Rheault has a team-high 26 RBIs and Renning follows with 25.

Egan Bonde leads the starting pitching staff with a 4.47 ERA.

The Knights rank 6th in fielding percentage (.978), 13th in shutouts (5), 13th in WHIP (1.23), 17th in walks allowed per nine innings (2.74), 19th in earned run average (3.11), 36th in strikeout-to-walk radio (2.51), 41st in hits allowed per nine innings (8.33), 61st in stolen bases per game (1.97), 61st in win-loss percentage (.677) and 88th in stolen bases (61).
 
Individually, three Knights rank in the top 100 of six statistical categories: Bohling ranks 4th in saves (10), Eckhart ranks 10th in earned run average (1.09), 16th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (9.50), 27th in walks allowed per nine innings (.93) and 31st in WHIP (.93). McNair ranks 46th in stolen bases per game (.64).
