ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Wartburg men's soccer team (1-3 overall) will be on the road this weekend to face a couple of nonconference opponents, as it will face Washington University in St. Louis on Friday, Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. From there, the Knights will head west on I-70 to compete against Westminster College in Fulton, Mo., on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 1 p.m.
Washington University in St. Louis (0-3) is coming off of a loss on the road at DePauw University on Friday, Sept. 7. The Bears are led in goals (1) by Marc Vandenberg and Kyle Perez. At goalie, the Bears are led in total minutes (270:00) and saves (7) by Connor Mathes. Wartburg holds the 1-0-1 all-time record over the Bears, with its last matchup resulting in a 1-1 tie in double overtime on Sept. 1, 2017.
The Blue Jays (1-3) are coming off a 4-0 win Illinois College on Sept. 8. Blue Jays' players have combined for 35 shots, 14 shots on goal, five goals, and three assists. The programs have never previously met.
The Knights are coming off of a 2-1 overtime loss at home to Gustavus Adolphus College, following their 1-2 start of the season. The Knights are led in scoring by seniors
Ben Johnson (7) and
Ayo Adebayo (5), led in led in shots (11) and shots on goal (9) by Adebayo, and are led in total points (8) by Adebayo and sophomore
Jack Palen. The Knights' goalies (
Paul Koebke Barsic,
Gunnar Lenzen) have combined for 15 saves and a win in three games.
