WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Wartburg College Knights men's baseball team (1-4 overall) fell 12-0 to the Saint Joseph's College of Maine Monks (6-0) on Friday morning.
Sophomore pitcher
Dylan Gotto (Peosta) surrendered a six-run first inning that set the tone offensively for the Monks. Saint Joseph's added a run in the second inning and two more in the fourth before head coach Joel Holst made a pitching change, bringing in junior
Jordan Hoey (West Des Moines).
Hoey's first inning on the mound resulted in the Monk's final three scores at the bottom of the fifth to take the 12-0 lead before retiring the side in the bottom of the sixth to end the day. While Wartburg failed to score today, sophomore outfielder
JoJo McNair (Joliet, Ill.) managed to go 2-3 at the plate, followed by freshman
Jarod Harris (Manchester) who went .500 on the day (2-4).
The loss serves as Gotto's first on the season and fourth overall in his young career. In four innings of action, the sophomore struck out five batters.
The Knights will return to action tomorrow, as they will face the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth in doubleheader action beginning at 9:45 a.m. (ET).
