STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Wartburg College Knights (8-21 overall, 5-11 A-R-C) fell 7-4 to the Buena Vista University Beavers (13-16, 6-8) on Friday evening.
Sophomore pitcher
Dylan Gotto (Peosta) threw six innings and tied a career-high with nine strikeouts. Sophomore shortstop
Parker Ridge (Marion) batted 2-3 with two RBIs, followed by junior
Collin Guinn (Davenport) who went 2-4 with a RBI.
Buena Vista got on board first with a three-run third inning that was powered by an RBI single, an RBI double and an RBI ground out. Wartburg responded with a one-run fourth inning highlighted by a RBI double by Guinn to trim the deficit to 3-1.
The Knights grabbed a 4-3 lead after scoring three at the top of the sixth, capped off by a sac fly from Baumann. The Beavers tied things up by recording a RBI single in the bottom half of the inning. At the bottom of the seventh, the Beavers regained the lead after connecting on a RBI single to jump ahead 5-4.
Buena Vista capped off their night with a two-run eighth inning that was fueled by two RBI singles to secure the victory 7-4.
The two teams will complete the series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
